When visitors to my own home first found themselves with four large muzzles pressing into their lap, I wanted to find an action that I was sure that my company would readily use. I tried other ways for my guests to signal "Enough" (as in "Go away"), but none of them worked very well. The dogs learned the cues, but the visitors wouldn't use them, no matter how much they wanted the dogs to go away. I eventually learned that all my visitors were comfortable saying "Enough" and going "pat pat" on my dogs' heads when they were ready for a little less doggy breath in their face.
